Statement from the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) Board of Directors
Issued 25th July 2024
The Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) is a community Trust established for the public good, with communities as beneficial owners, represented by the Council of Elders. The Council, comprising chairpersons of the 45 Community Conservancies in Kenya and Uganda, is NRT's apex governing body.
The Board of Directors is a voluntary, non-remunerated body assisting the Council with policy and strategy advice. The NRT Secretariat, led by the Chief Executive Officer oversees the implementation of all programmes and new initiatives reporting to the Board. Its mission is to build resilient community conservancies, foster peace, and conserve nature.
NRT is currently undergoing an internal restructuring of its senior management to improve the delivery and efficiency of its 30 Year Vision and Five Year Strategy, addressing the gaps and ensuring sustained growth. These changes are adjusting individual roles and organizational policies and include gradually relocating NRT headquarters from Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to a more central location, to enhance access.
The NRT Board assures all the stakeholders that these internal reforms will be more beneficial to individuals who seek to work with NRT, organizational operating systems, procedures, and the communities it serves. It will not, in any way disrupt the existing and future partnerships, communications or quality of services in ten (10) counties of Kenya and Uganda where we operate. NRT has injected new capabilities to strengthen its operations, delivery system and science expertise.
Regarding information circulating in the media, it is our policy that employees upon attaining the age of 60 years retire. It is also our policy to treat all employees with dignity and respect. As we prepare to celebrate our 20th Anniversary, NRT is prepared to honor and celebrate founding members for their outstanding service. NRT remains unwavering in its dedication to enhancing livelihoods, fostering peace, and conserving nature. We appreciate the continued support we are getting from all the stakeholders and the Government of Kenya. NRT maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of discrimination.
Once again, we want to say, thank you to all our stakeholders for the continued support, the Governments of Kenya and Uganda, and reassure all the communities we serve. We look forward to achieving our strategic goals together.
Chairman, on behalf of the Board.
