The President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed the Chairman of NRT's Board of Directors, Hon. Mohammed Elmi, to the position of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for the Ministry of Environment.
"I am extremely honoured to have been appointed to this position by President Uhuru Kenyatta," says Elmi, "I look forward to working closely with Hon. Kerioko Tobiko, the CS for Environment and his team. As the Chairman of the Board of the Northern Rangelands Trust, I have seen first hand that the solutions to Kenya's most pressing challenges - challenges like diminishing spaces, deforestation and degraded rangelands - lie in the communities that live in these places, and the harnessing of our collective knowledge, experience, and expertise to support them."
Hon. Elmi's appointment is a testament to his in-depth experience of working with local communities to enhance livelihoods and preserve natural resources. It is also an indication of government-level recognition of the critical role community conservancies play in protecting Kenya's heritage.
Hon. Elmi has been involved with NRT since 2012, and his appointment will further strengthen NRT's relationships with both national government, and the county governments in all the counties in which member community conservancies lie.
Hongera Chairman Elmi!
