TASSIA LODGE
Opened in 2001, Tassia Lodge is perched on the edge of the Mokogodo Forest escarpment with spectacular views of the northern rangelands and the sacred Lolokwe Mountain. Located in the 60,000 acre Lekurruki Conservation Trust, the eco-lodge was built with support from private Borana Ranch and Lewa Wildife Conservancy and is owned by the local Mokogodo Maasi, who have been protecting the forest areas for centuries against encroachment and timber harvest.

Tassia Lodge, constructed with low-impact local materials and with a distinctly Maasi architectural design, has six individual rooms. Each private, open-air room has its own bathroom facilities and terrace overlooking the northern rangelands. The dining and sitting area offers equally impressive views and overlooks the natural rock swimming pool below. Meals can be taken in the dining area or arranged ‘picnic-style’ in the bush. All facilities at Tassia Lodge are run on solar power.
Guests can enjoy day and night game drives, but more popular is exploring the wildlife and area on foot with knowledgeable local guides. The Mokogodo Forest is home to diverse and thriving populations of wildlife, butterflies, birds, plants and trees. Camel walks are another popular activity, especially for guests wishing to spend a few nights camping in the bush. After the rainy season, the nearby river is an exciting place to visit, with many idyllic waterfalls and plunge pools along with abundant game.
Access to Tassia Lodge is by daily scheduled flights on SafariLink or Air Kenya to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and a two-hour road transfer to the lodge. Private charters are also available that fly direct to Tassia’s airstrip. By 4x4 vehicle, access to Tassia Lodge from Nairobi is approximately six hours via Borana Ranch and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.
