SASAAB LODGE
The Sasaab Lodge is truly one of the most stylish and luxurious game lodges in all of northern Kenya. Located within the West Gate Community Conservancy, the lodge overlooks the Ewaso Nyiro River in the heart of Samburu country.
Guests enjoy unparalleled comfort and style in the nine individually detached rooms, each with high thatched roofs, private pool and open-air veranda overlooking the river. The main mess area provides a warm and friendly atmosphere where guests can enjoy meals and meet other travelers. Meals can also be taken in a more private setting or in the bush under the stars.
Activities for guests include game drives, camel rides and bush walks with knowledgeable and friendly local Samburu guides. Guests can explore the surrounding West Gate Community Conservancy, or choose to visit the nearby Samburu National Research and Buffalo Springs National Reserve. Wherever you visit, you are sure to encounter abundant wildlife including elephant, giraffe, oryx, lion, cheetah and the endangered Grevy’s Zebra among others. Other activities include visiting community projects like the cultural manyatta, the Ngutuk Ongiron Primary School and a ‘market day’ where visitors see local women’s groups making jewelry and crafts supported by NRT Trading.
Access to Sasaab Lodge is by daily scheduled flight on SafariLink or Air Kenya from Nairobi Wilson Airport to Buffalo Springs National Reserve. From the reserve, it is approximately one and a half hours drive through Buffalo Springs and Samburu Reserves. Sasaab has its own airstrip for those wishing to hire a chartered flight. Access by 4x4 vehicle from Nairobi is through Buffalo Springs and Samburu National Reserves and takes approximately seven hours.
